fullsizeoutput_35ebThose of us in the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere may be feeling the urge for spring cleaning, a sign that we are aligned with the energies of Mama Earth… and the practices of our ancestors.

Spring is a time of preparation and readiness for the growing season to come. Our ancestors would have opened up their windows and doors, and swept out the dust and soot accumulated over a long shut-in winter. The farmers would till the soil to prepare for planting.

And bless auto-correct, which initially wrote those words as “till the soul”... and is that not true?

At this new time of Spring (and a new astrological year, we are “tilling our souls” to prepare for the journey ahead… removing the weed and rocks, fertilizing, creating a foundation for growth.

This is definitely my goal — and maybe even my mantra! — for April: to declutter and simplify as much as possible, in our home and in my practice.

This activity is ongoing with me. For each new thing I bring into our home, I remove and release something by donating, gifting or recycling. Sometimes the balance seems to be towards accumulation rather than reduction — especially when it comes to books, craft materials and decks of oracle cards! But with those too, I shall be ruthless! Out with the old stagnant energy and in with the new fresh energy.

What would you like to simplify in YOUR life?

How will you till your soul this month?

And like our theme for this lunar month, be sure to “Love the Earth, Love the Self” in your actions and with your intentions.

“Our life is frittered away by detail… simplify, simplify.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
